The Madoc Fair

September 16, 2007

We had a great weekend at the Madoc Fair this weekend. I had a Campus Life booth set up advertising all the stuff me do, which was great because I got to meet a lot of new people because of it!

It was our first time to take in the whole fair even though we’ve been here from 3 fairs. Our first year, we didn’t even know what it was, year 2 we led a youth worship service on Sunday at the fair, and this year we took it all in. It was a LOT of fun. Friday night we went the the Ambush which was surprisingly a lot of fun. I thought they were straight country music, but they didn’t actually do a whole lot of country, mostly rock.

One Great Weekend

September 10, 2007

EDIT: I meant north beach, not north bay.

This past weekend our worship team was leading worship in North Bay Ontario at the Spiritborne retreat. It’s an event they have every September to get the spiritborne group ready to roll for the year.

We were going away for the whole weekend to lead worship and a few days before we left, we decided to turn it into a vacation. I contacted the SB director to make sure it was cool for us to bring our families with us, and sure enough, it was!

Our schedule as a worship team was so relaxed, we led worship Saturday morning for 30 mins, then led worship at the fire Saturday night for 30 mins then Sunday morning for an hour, so we said that if we brought our families then it would make the weekend a lot more fun. Friday night Greg D (the drummer) pulled into Madoc on the greyhound bus at 8:50pm and we piled into the

The Kids We Work With

August 2, 2007

Stumbled across this today, pretty funny, but SOOO accurate. Everyone has at least one of each of these in their ministry!

Read the whole list here

Here’s a sample:

1. Weird Home School Kid. I’m sorry, but I’ve been a youth pastor for 13+ years, and most home school kids are kind of strange.

2. Star Wars Freak Boy. This is the kid that dresses up for movies and buys lightsabers off eBay.

3. Christian Band Groupie. They have lots of t-shirts, CD’s and autographed paraphernalia and strangely refer to members of the Newsboys by their first name.

4. Facial Hair Guy. This guy could be 12 or 18, but he’s got that scruffy patch of something occupying space on his chin. It doesn’t look very good.

5. Super Spiritual Girl. Sometimes known as “I’m dating Jesus” girl. She likes to read books like “Lady in Waiting” and usually closes youth group meetings in prayer.

6. The IT specialist. He will have a promising corporate career or become an underground hacker. He illegally downloads things from the Internet for his youth pastor so his youth pastor doesn’t have to break the law.

7. The “I refuse to leave” individual. This person graduated from your ministry at least one year ago, but tricks himself into thinking of himself or herself as a chaperone so they can stick around. The will
be in your youth service for some time.

8. Overdeveloped Middle School Girl. That’s all I need to say about that one. This group of students did not exist when I was in middle school.

9. The Hoochie. If unchecked, overdeveloped middle school girl may develop into hoochie. This girl rarely wears enough clothing.
